Curriculum
The most employable students in Corby
We offer our students an ambitious curriculum that enables them to leave our school as young adults equipped with key employability skills so that they can thrive in the modern workplace. This supports our learners to develop transferable skills and knowledge along with the ability to adapt to a fast-changing environment. Our technical ethos and links with industry ensure that students have regular contact with the working world and are adaptable in new situations using their initiative to solve unfamiliar problems.
We believe that excellent teaching and a rich curriculum, accessible to all, can close the gap between the disadvantaged and advantaged. Our curriculum places resilience, aspiration and building of knowledge at its heart.
Our curriculum extends beyond the classroom and encompasses a broad range of co-curricular activities, trips and visits and competitive sport to help our students become disciplined and resilient learners. Students learn to organise themselves and others, developing the skills they need to be effective team members in a variety of contexts.
Our curriculum is focused on the acquisition of core knowledge as the foundation to enable students to make excellent progress within all subjects. Additionally, across the school students are supported to become effective readers, writers and evaluators, as well as having the analytical skills to apply their knowledge and solve problems.
Throughout the curriculum the British values are embedded to ensure students develop their character, becoming moral and active contributors to society, taking pride in the global community they belong to. Both the taught curriculum, and the delivery of this aims to ensure that students understand the importance of non-discriminatory and equal treatment of individuals regardless of protected characteristics.

In Years 10 and 11, students follow a challenging curriculum and their studies will be supplemented by a programme of careers education linked to work experience in Corby and the surrounding area. Alongside our core curriculum (English, Maths and Science) and non-examined subjects that all students study (RE, PSHE, Personal development, Core PE), students have a broad range of options to choose from at the end of year 9.
Key stage 5 (Years 12 & 13)
Students at Corby technical School Sixth Form are offered a range of studies. It is anticipated that students at this stage are more certain of the career opportunities available to them due to the clear knowledge and skills experienced in the previous key stages; however, students are offered comprehensive guidance and support when choosing the relevant route to lead them onto higher education or their chosen career.
A range of A-levels and vocational level three qualifications are offered at CTS that are tailored to help students access their chosen career, whether that be in line with our technical ethos or one of the many diverse areas now available to them. These courses will follow on from GCSEs studied, details below. Students are required to take a minimum of three level 3 subjects.
Employer engagement at this level will be further targeted to the individual and specific needs and wants of the student. This will take the form of guest speakers, academic and enrichment opportunities alongside possible bursary support and sponsorship. All students in year 12 partake in the weekly enrichment and personal development programme to develop their employability skills. Within this, students opt for an enrichment opportunity that will most benefit their career aspirations. This could take the form of work experience placements, volunteering, lower school mentoring or Duke of Edinburgh, alongside the ability to study further academic subjects such as Core Maths, EPQ or Sports Leaders.
