Course Entry Requirement: Grade 5 and above in Art or Photography
Photography gives students an opportunity to visually explore a range of concepts and interpret a variety of themes. Students develop creative skills through exploring and creating original images . Students will use a DSLR camera and digital manipulation software. They will research a broad range of photographers working with a variety of approaches and themes. This will lead to an in depth understanding of photographic practise that in turn will influence the development of their own style and ideas. Students will explore a range of techniques and processes and be taught basic photography skills, compositions , how a camera works and the history of photography. They will be shown photoshop and how to edit and enhance images
Course Structure:
The course is made up of two components:
Component 1: Personal portfolio (course work ) 60% of final grade
Completed photographic briefs with supporting study to show the development of ideas leading to a final outcome Sketchbook on a theme/ subject showing detailed studies/ ideas for future developments including in depth critical study of the work of photographers Investigation of a visual concept or theme.
Component 2: Externally set assignment (exam project) 40% of final grade
Task paper issued by OCR in January of exam year , unlimited preparation time which leads to a 10 hour exam in which students are expected to complete a final piece relevant to their project.
