Year 10
Year 10 Art and Design students follow the Fine Art endorsement of the AQA GCSE course. Students complete the first two controlled assessment units building up a substantial portfolio of work during Year 10. The first unit focuses on ‘Natural Forms’ and offers experience in a range of three dimensional materials and mixed media as well as painting and drawing. During the second unit, students work towards creating a self-portrait in a media of their choice which is inspired by a wide range of historical and contemporary practitioners.
Both units evolve from direct observation and are informed by the work of artists. Students critically analyse, interpret and engage with Artworks that are relevant to their chosen project direction. Ideas develop sequentially towards a final piece in sketchbooks and on a larger scale through a series of experimental and design work. As students acquire increased confidence, they interpret and research a given theme with greater independence.
