The Year 7 Art and Design course follows the National Curriculum and focuses on developing a foundation of basic skills. A balanced programme of art, craft and design activities includes work in two and three dimensions and at a variety of scales. An exploration of the work of artists complements developing ideas. Students begin to analyse images critically using specialist vocabulary which informs their own practical work.

The focus in the first half of the year is on still life. The second project is inspired by Art from another culture.

Students are introduced to the use of a sketchbook in which they record observations and collect research and reference materials.
