Design and Technology
The Design and Technology department staff at Corby Technical School are committed to delivering a curriculum accessible to all which provides the broadest possible range of opportunities for students through both independent and group activities. We aim to enable our students to become self-motivated learners who have the confidence to persevere with the challenges that they may face during assignment work and the knowledge gained by completing practical activities, whilst at the same time not being afraid to learn by making mistakes.
Learners will be given the opportunity to develop technical and practical competencies equipping them with the skills valued by employers enabling them to thrive in the modern workplace developing the skills they need to be effective team members.
The department embraces new technologies and we firmly believe that students learn best by ‘doing’ and by allowing them to experiment and take risks, in a safe and positive learning environment.
We hope our students will become responsible citizens who make a positive contribution to society by teaching them the importance of managing finite resources and understanding the impact on the environment as well as the importance of sustainability and recycling.
Students must learn about the social and ethical responsibilities of designers and engineers with an emphasis on British values. All in all, we hope our students enjoy the subject and produce high quality outcomes.
At KS4, students study Pearson Edexcel (1DT0(F)) GCSE Design and Technology.
